This is a letter I wrote to my friend Missy. It's self explanatory... ------------------ So my latest refining of a disturbing thought is this: An interesting note to set the stage--- In Africa (or some other tribal area) there is this tribe of people who basically live the tribal life. But here's the point, they spend like three or so hours each day farming, hunting, gathering, whatever and then they're done. Poof. They spend the rest of the day working on arts and crafts or thinking about God or whatever. It takes them three hours each day to take care of their needs and that's all they spend on it. So we live in this amazing consumption based society. Now I support capitalism, it's financial Darwinism and thus works. It works because it forces people on an individual, personal basis to work. So it's pretty much inescapable. Now I'm thinking one day about all of the beuracrats and middlemen that exist in today's society that didn't exist before and I realized that these jobs exist because there are people to fill them. These jobs exist because there are people to employ not because they need to be done. Of course now that they exist they are needed... But still, if a nuclear war happened tomorrow, in thirty seconds wiped out half the population of the world, and then society reformed, I garauntee that the gears of civilization would turn much as they do now, but without those people. Basically the system is sprouting hamster wheels to make sure everyone is running eventhough only about half of us are actually needed. Why is this a disturbing thought? First, becasue this growth is in my direction. The entertainment industry is what is going to carry this. After all, a farmer only needs so many people to steer the automatic thresher. In fact, the insurge of money and the max- marketing of every new and original idea is really what brought this to light recently. But also, this is disturbing because I see it as another symptom of a fat bloated situation for the world. Now that is not good because itıs a precursor of change and change at this point in history will be violent. If not in a blood shed way, in a very jarring way. Oh well, On a lighter note, I'm going out dancing in my new kilt in about ten minutes. I sewed it today-- I got let off of work early and was attacked by the muse. Hasta, Bride
